100 BEST ’15: FISH BALL SOUP at SHU JIAO FU ZHOU

I’m counting down the 100 best dishes I tasted in 2015…

Fish Ball Soup at SHU JIAO FU ZHOU

In Chinatown, it’s always the places you’re least likely to wander into that are worth wondering into. All the incredibly cheap dishes (nothing was over $4) at Shu Jia Fu Zhou were worth much more than I paid. I even liked the scary sounding fish ball soup/ The clear broth that the fish balls were floating in was as delicate and complex as anything I’ve had at any high-end restaurant. Its subtle scallion and celery notes gave the tender fish balls a perfect bath. Price: $2
